| Welcome to the art of Sanskrit These letters are also used for Hindi, the most commonly used language of India. Notice the similarity of the numbers below to the ones we use today, across the globe. This is where they originated, and why our system is now known as "Hindu-Arabic Numerals."   Left to right, these are the letters N-M-K, which spell the word for salt, namuk. Just as with Hebrew, words are written without vowels.
