Jungle Carpet Pythons Pair introduced evening 22/08/2000, mating seen on the morning of 24/08/2000, eggs laid on the 17/10/2000 and hatched on the 12/12/2000. All of the juveniles have been sold with most going to New South Wales. The mother is now also living in NSW with the father being sold to a guy in Victoria. | This image shows the female jungle still wrapped around her eggs. She is doing this to protect the eggs and twitches to control the temperature. When I noticed that she wasn't on her branch as normal I checked her hide box just in case she had laid. The moment I touched the hide box she struck it from the inside which is unusual for her as she is a very placid snake. | | My first snake eggs - Yeee Haa !!!!! As you can see the eggs have stuck together and kept the same shape as they were when the female was coiled around them. They were laid some time before I could remove them from the mother so it was not possible to separate them. For the following two days the female continued the twitching and appeared to search for the eggs with her tongue - sad :-( | | | Next the eggs were placed in a plastic container with the vermiculite mixture (1:1 with water by weight), placed in an esky (converted to an incubator) and driven to a friend's place where I have set up the main incubator. I keep them there for security reasons as having a large number of eggs can make you a target. This friend of mine doesn't keep snakes and as such the eggs are safe. | | Note that a couple of the eggs have a yolk coloured dot on them. | | | My first baby snakes !!!! :-) This images clearly show the heads checking out the moist vermiculite landscape | | All eggs hatched with the exception of the one at the bottom. It is the one with a layer of orange on the image above and to the right. | | | This image show one of the hatchling jungle straight out of the egg - very slimey. It is hard to see in this picture but they have very nice bands down the length of the body and are a reddish colour. | | Here is a pic of one juvenile taken on the 7th May 2001. Nearly 5 months old. | |
